Israel currently has the best relations with the United Arab Emirates among Arab countries, but the UAE is also upset with Israel’s recent moves. The UAE has issued a stern warning to Israel over its alleged plans to ‘annex’ parts of the occupied West Bank and called the move a ‘red line’ that threatens the future of regional stability and diplomatic normalization.

UAE Assistant Minister for Political Affairs Lana Nusseibeh said on Wednesday that Israel’s proposed West Bank annexation plan would seriously undermine the ‘Abraham Accord’, under which formal relations were established between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv in 2020.

UAE’s support to the Palestinian people

In his statement to the AFP, Nusseibeh said, “From the very beginning, we have seen these agreements as a way to enable our continued support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate aspiration of a free country.”

Israel angry at minister’s remarks

Nusseibeh cited recent comments by a senior Israeli minister, in which the minister said the occupation of the West Bank would bury the idea of a Palestinian state.

Nusseibeh said, “The proposal to annex parts of the West Bank to Israel, which is reportedly being discussed in the Israeli government, is part of an effort that will, in the words of an Israeli minister, bury the idea of a Palestinian state.”

Annexation of the West Bank is a red line – UAE

The occupation of the West Bank will become a red line for the UAE. He stressed that this would seriously undermine the vision and spirit of the agreements, undermine efforts at regional integration, and alter the widely shared consensus on what the direction of this conflict should be, in which the two countries can live together in peace, prosperity and security.
