Russian President Vladimir Putin’s private conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is on a visit to China, is in the news. In fact, on Wednesday, when Putin and Jinping were walking shoulder to shoulder in Beijing, some conversation took place between them. This conversation was recorded by the media mike standing at a distance. This was not a part of any official conversation, so people became interested in what the heads of state of the world’s two major superpowers were talking about. Apart from the SCO summit, Putin has come to China to attend the military parade organized on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
When did Putin-Xi talk happen?
When Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un were walking towards the stage with more than two dozen foreign leaders to watch the military parade organized in Beijing, this private conversation took place between them. This conversation was broadcast on livestream by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV. China’s Radio and TV Administration said that CCTV’s coverage of this program was watched 1.9 billion times online and more than 400 million people watched it on TV.
What was Xi Jinping seen saying to Putin
As Putin and Xi walked towards the Tiananmen stage, Putin’s translator was heard saying in Chinese, “Biotechnology is constantly developing.” After an unclear conversation, the translator said, “Human organs can be transplanted continuously. The longer you live, the younger you will become, and you can even achieve immortality.”
‘Humans can live up to 150 years’
After this, Xi Jinping, who was out of the camera’s sight, replied in Chinese, “Some people estimate that humans can live up to 150 years in this century.” During this time, Kim Jong Un was smiling and looking towards Putin and Xi Jinping. However, it was not clear whether the conversation was being translated for him or not. Putin could not be heard clearly speaking in Russian in the CCTV clip.
Jinping’s audio slowed down
As Xi Jinping begins speaking in this CCTV video, the video cuts to a wide shot of Tiananmen Square and the audio slows down. About 30 seconds later, Xi, Putin and Kim reappear on camera walking toward a stage to watch the parade. At the event, Xi Jinping told a crowd of more than 50,000 spectators that the world faces a choice of “peace or war.” He inspected troops and state-of-the-art military equipment.
