Uttarakhand: Disaster causes loss of Rs 5700 crore in the state, financial package sought from central government

The loss due to natural disaster in the state was estimated to be more than 5700 crores. The state government has sent the loss report to the Home Ministry and demanded an economic package. The Public Works Department has suffered the most loss of 1164 crores due to damage to roads due to the disaster.

Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman has written a letter to the Home Ministry for an economic package. The central government should provide special assistance of Rs 5702.15 crore to compensate for the damage caused during the monsoon this year and to prevent possible damage to infrastructure structures in future.

Secretary Disaster Management informed that due to natural disaster this year, Public Works Department and Public Roads have suffered loss of about Rs. 1163.84 crore, Irrigation Department’s assets Rs. 266.65 crore, Energy Department Rs. 123.17 crore, Health Department’s assets about Rs. 4.57 crore, School Education Department’s assets Rs. 68.28 crore, Higher Education Department’s assets Rs. 9.04 crore, Fisheries Department Rs. 2.55 crore, Rural Development Department Rs. 65.50 crore, Urban Development Rs. 4 crore, Animal Husbandry Department Rs. 23.06 crore and other departmental assets Rs. 213.46 crore. Thus, all the government departments have suffered direct loss of about Rs. 1944.15 crore. Rs. 1944.15 crore was demanded for reconstruction of these assets.

Apart from this, the Central Government has been requested for assistance of Rs 3758.00 crore to save the assets damaged by the disaster, road blockage, populated areas and other infrastructure structures.

79 people died and 90 are missing in the last 5 months due to disaster

Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman said that from April 1, 2025 to August 31, 2025, 79 people have died, 115 people have been injured, and 90 are missing due to natural disaster.

238 concrete and two kutcha houses demolished, 3237 damaged

238 concrete and two kutcha houses were demolished due to the disaster, while 3237 were damaged. Among the damaged houses, there are 2835 concrete and 402 kutcha houses. A total of 3953 small and big animals have died due to the disaster.

Commercial buildings also suffered heavy damage

According to the Secretary Disaster Management, commercial buildings have also suffered heavy damage due to the disaster. A large number of commercial buildings, shops, hotels, homestays, restaurants and other structures have been damaged.
