Uttarakhand: Tehri’s historic Ramlila will be revived in Dehradun, inaugurated with Kalash Yatra.

Preserving the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand, the “Shri Ramakrishna Leela Samiti Tehri 1952, Dehradun (Regd.)” has pledged to organize a grand Ramlila festival this year as well. Revived in Dehradun after Tehri was submerged, the Ramlila will now be staged at the Shri Gurunanak Ground at the Race Course from September 22nd to October 3rd, 2025.
Ramlila inaugurated with a Kalash Yatra
The festival began with a Kalash Yatra from the ancient Hanuman Temple and Ghantaghar. The procession passed through Paltan Bazaar, Raja Road, Prince Chowk, and Tyagi Road, reaching the Race Course Ground. The procession featured impressive tableaux of Lord Ram Darbar and Lord Valmiki, along with the Dev Doli, Dhol-Damau, Shiv-Dhol, Mridang, Punjabi Dhol, and horse-carriages.
The goal is to reach over 7.5 million viewers through live telecasts
Committee Chairman Abhinav Thapar stated that the 2024 Ramlila was viewed by over 5.5 million people through various media. This year, the Ramlila will be broadcast through a digital live telecast system, reaching over 7.5 million viewers. In addition to the Ramlila performance, traditional bhajan evenings, cultural performances, and the burning of effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnath will be held on October 2nd.
