Uttarakhand: Adi Kailash Marathon to be held on 25 years of statehood, CM Dhami flagged off the promo run

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off the promo run of the ultra marathon from the Chief Minister’s residence on Sunday. This historic marathon will be organized from Gunji village in the Vyas Valley on the occasion of State Foundation Day on November 2, 2025.

CM Dhami stated that the Adi Kailash Marathon is being organized to mark the silver jubilee year of the establishment of Uttarakhand. This ultra marathon, held at an altitude of 10,300 to 15,000 feet, will not only promote adventure and winter tourism but will also prove to be a milestone in the socio-economic development of border areas and in addressing the problem of migration.
Youth will get sustainable employment opportunities
CM Dhami said that this event will also play an effective role in accelerating the “Vibrant Village Scheme” launched by PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The CM clarified that this marathon is much more than a sports competition. It will bring respect and recognition to the people of border areas and open new opportunities for sustainable employment in the homestay and tourism sectors.
Winners will be eligible for the main marathon
Tourism Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal stated that the top three winners of this 10-kilometer race will receive direct entry into the main marathon, scheduled for November 2nd in Gunji, Pithoragarh. The event will have five categories: a 60-kilometer ultra run, a 42-kilometer full marathon, a 21-kilometer half marathon, a 10-kilometer run, and a 5-kilometer run. Athletes from across the country will participate. The Secretary further stated that after this marathon, the next marathon is scheduled for June 2026 in the Mana-Niti region, with a total prize pool of ₹50 lakh (approximately ₹50 lakh).
