These items have become cheaper from today; learn the new prices of curd, butter, milk and ghee, and discounts on children’s study materials

GST 2.0 has come into effect in the country today, September 22nd, the first day of Navratri. By implementing this, the government has provided significant relief to the common man. Now, everyday items, from your kitchen to your children’s study materials, will become cheaper. Taxes on milk, bread, butter, flour, pulses, soap, cheese, shampoo, etc. have been reduced or even zero. Let’s explore the various items that have seen a price reduction for the poor and middle class.

  • UHT milk, which was previously in the 5% GST slab, has now been moved to the zero GST slab. The price of a one-liter pack has dropped from ₹77 to ₹75.
  • Previously, cheese was subject to a 12% GST, which has now been reduced to zero. 200 grams of cheese will now be available for ₹80, up from ₹90.
    A 500-gram pack of butter has also been reduced from ₹305 to ₹285.
  • GST on ghee has been reduced from 12% to 5%. A litre of Amul ghee will be available for ₹610 instead of ₹650.

Substantial savings on food and snacks too

Bread and pizza have been reduced to zero with 5% GST. Now, a ₹20 bread will be available for ₹19.
Pasta, noodles, corn flakes, etc. have also been placed in the 5% slab. Previously, they were in the 12-18% slab.
Tax on biscuits and snacks has also been reduced to 5%. Previously, these were taxed at 12-18%.
Toilet and personal care products
Tax on oil, shampoo, and soap has been reduced from 18% to 5%. Now, you can buy a ₹100 shampoo pack for ₹105 instead of ₹118.

Sweets and Chocolates Also Cut

Chocolates and sweets have also received relief. A chocolate worth ₹50 will now be available for ₹44. A kilogram of laddus worth ₹400 will now be taxed at only ₹20 instead of ₹72.

Children’s Study Supplies Also Cheapened

GST has been reduced on children’s study supplies such as notebooks, pencils, erasers, globes, graph books, etc. This has resulted in a reduction in the cost of approximately 99% of everyday items.
