The Delhi High Court today issued a significant ruling regarding extramarital affairs. According to this, wives can now demand a fine from their husband’s girlfriend. Yes, if a woman is fed up with her husband’s girlfriend, she can file a lawsuit against her in court.
She can also seek compensation for the damage caused to her relationship. The court clarified that adultery is no longer a crime. However, this does not mean that any third party will be affected by its decision.

In fact, a woman accused her husband’s girlfriend of breaking up their relationship. Consequently, she sought compensation of 1 crore rupees from her.
Husband and girlfriend appeal to Delhi HC
The husband and girlfriend had also appealed to the court to dismiss the case. But the High Court rejected the arguments outright. The court stated that personal freedom is not a crime, and therefore, the government cannot punish it. This behavior can lead to civil consequences. This means that if someone does something voluntarily, it is not a crime. However, if that action causes harm to someone, they must pay compensation.

The court further stated that adultery is no longer a crime under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). However, civil cases related to it can still be heard in court. The clear meaning is that if someone is harmed by an extramarital affair, they can seek compensation in court.
