UKSSSC paper leak case: Khalid and Sabia’s judicial custody extended, SIT makes major revelations

Khalid Malik, the main accused in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Selection Service Commission (UKSSSC) paper leak case, and his sister Sabia were presented before the district court. Following their presentation, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) requested the court to extend their judicial custody by 14 days, which the district court granted. The SIT argued that the team was gathering evidence related to Khalid and Sabia, and therefore, their judicial custody should be extended.

According to the SIT, recently, the SIT, using a search warrant, searched the home of Khalid, the main accused, in Haridwar. No books or notebooks related to competitive exam preparation were found. Furthermore, he had applied for nine competitive exams between 2024 and 2025 without studying. He failed to appear for five of them. He scored very low marks in the exams he did appear in. All these facts indicate that Khalid had been conspiring to succeed in competitive exams for a long time, relying on cheating or collusion. The SIT will pursue the investigation into when and what attempts he made to cheat. He may also be taken into custody for questioning.

The SIT team has not yet recovered Khalid’s mobile phone, which he took to the examination center. While fleeing from the police, he formatted it and left it in a train dustbin. Police have seized his second mobile phone, the one he used to send photos of three pages of the question paper to his sister Sabia from the examination center, but it was also formatted. Police are working to recover the data from the seized mobile phone through experts. If this data is obtained, it will reveal who Khalid was in contact with over the past two years and whether anyone else was involved in the cheating scandal, giving direction to the investigation.

SP Rural Jaya Baluni stated that the search of Khalid’s home has yielded important information. The most curious thing is that Khalid even applied for some exams for which he did not meet the educational qualifications. The SIT is now thoroughly investigating Khalid’s motives for applying for nine exams when he wasn’t preparing for any exams and didn’t possess the required qualifications. As these facts emerge, the SIT will expand its investigation.
