Taliban supporter Haider Hashmi wrote on Instagram that Muttaqi’s grand welcome in Deoband was commendable. It reflects Afghanistan’s growing role. Deoband students had never seen Muttaqi before. Despite this, the students’ outpouring of love was moving. Hardly anyone has seen another country’s foreign minister receive so much love from the people.

Afghanistan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi expressed his gratitude for the grand welcome and support he received in Deoband on Saturday. He said, “I am grateful for the love of the people here. I hope India-Afghanistan relations will strengthen. We will send new diplomats, and I hope you will also come to Kabul. This will further strengthen the relationship.”
Students of Darul Uloom were enthusiastic when Muttaqi arrived in Deoband and attempted to meet him. Security personnel had a difficult time during this time. Muttaqi, who arrived in Deoband by road from New Delhi, said that Darul Uloom students once had a significant influence in Afghanistan. Therefore, he felt a connection to this place.
