Major Crackdown on Cough Syrups in Uttarakhand

Giving children’s safety the highest priority, the Drug Department has intensified surprise raids on medical stores, wholesalers, hospitals, and pharma units in all districts. So far, more than 350 cough syrup samples have been taken for testing, while the licenses of more than a dozen medical stores have been revoked. Several others have been issued stern warnings.

One Medical Store Closed

In Dehradun, under the leadership of Drug Inspector Manendra Singh Rana, raids were conducted on medical stores in several areas, including Paltan Bazaar, Ghantaghar, Jollygrant, Ajabpur, and Nehru Colony. Children’s cold and cough medicines were found stored separately at several locations, which were sealed on the spot. One medical store was closed, and samples of 11 medicines were sent for testing. In Rishikesh, Drug Inspector Nidhi Raturi’s team raided medical stores in the SPS Hospital and Jolly Grant area. Children’s cough syrups were found stored separately in some stores, and they were sealed on the spot. A total of six drug samples were taken for testing. In Haldwani, seven medical stores were inspected, and two cough syrup samples were taken. Additionally, one syrup in Almora and two in the Garur area of ​​Bageshwar were sent for testing.
