Uttarakhand / Dehradun: Doon Police activates for festive season, releases traffic plan, rules will be broken

To avoid inconvenience to the public during the upcoming festive season (Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhaiya Dooj, and Govardhan Puja), Dehradun Police has implemented a traffic plan. Dehradun Police is continuously providing updates regarding the traffic plan. The public is requested to stay updated with the traffic plan while traveling.
Route and Parking Plan
- Vehicles coming from Sahastradhara, Raipur Road, Rajpur Road, Subhash Road, and Dalanwala areas will park at Kabul House, near Survey Chowk, Mangala Devi Inter College campus, Multi-Storage Parking at Kanak Chowk, and the MDDA Complex at Ghantaghar.
- Vehicles coming from Chakrata Road, GMS Road, and the Garhi Cantt area will park at Janpath Complex, Bindal, the vacant ground in front of Prabhat Cut, and the Rangers Ground near Buddha Chowk.
- Vehicles coming from areas like EC Road, Rispana Bridge, Dharampur, Jogiwala, Nehru Colony, and No. 6 Pulia will park their vehicles at Rangers Ground near Buddha Chowk, Darbar Sahib, near Tehsil Chowk, and Rajiv Gandhi Complex Tehsil Chowk.
- Vehicles coming from areas like Saharanpur Chowk, Kanwali Road, Patel Nagar, and Pathribag will park their vehicles at the Old Bus Stand, near Drona Hotel, Police Office, near Doon Hospital, and the Municipal Corporation Office Complex.
- General public traveling to Paltan Bazaar on two-wheelers from different routes and locations will park their vehicles at Gandhi Inter College, near Paltan Bazaar, CNI School, and near Paltan Bazaar.
Parking facilities for other markets in the city:
- Visitors to Dharampur Bazaar should park their vehicles in the Race Course area parking lot.
People coming to Nehru Colony area should park their vehicles on the link roads to the right and left of the GST Office. - Visitors to the Rispana area should park their vehicles on the roadside inside Rajiv Nagar, near Vidhansabha Tiraha.
- Visitors to the Premnagar market should park their vehicles in the Dussehra Ground parking lot.
- Visitors to the Raipur Shiv Mandir market should park their vehicles in the Maldevta Road parking lot.
No-Entry Plan
- Entry to Paltan Bazaar from Darshani Gate, Tilak Road, Bhandari Chowk, Ansari Marg, Tehsil Chowk, and Dispensary Road will be strictly prohibited for loading vehicles. No loading vehicles will enter the Paltan Bazaar area from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Loading vehicles must complete their loading before 10:00 AM.
- Loading vehicles will only be allowed to travel via Raja Road from Peepal Mandi towards Darshani Gate under the one-way system.
- Vehicles belonging to merchants with establishments in the Paltan Bazaar area will be allowed to enter the market using tokens. Entry of other vehicles into the market will be strictly prohibited.
- In normal traffic conditions, Vikram will operate on its designated route.
Traffic Plan for Vikrams and Magics
- Vikrams (No. 1) coming from Rajpur Road to Orient Chowk will not be diverted to Orient Chowk but will be diverted to the Drop/Pick-up point at Globe Chowk, Pacific Tiraha, Subhash Road, Beni Bazaar, and then back to Rajpur.
- Vikrams (No. 2) coming from Raipur Road to Darshan Lal Chowk will not be diverted to Darshan Lal Chowk but will be diverted back to Raipur from the Drop/Pick-up point at Survey Chowk.
- Vikrams (No. 3) coming from Rispana will be diverted from Richirich Tiraha via IG Cut, Drop/Pick-up point at Doon Chowk, and MKP Chowk, and then back to Rispana.
- Vikrams (No. 5, 8) will be able to reach Tehsil Chowk and return from there.
Traffic Plan for City Buses
- The new drop/pick-up point for city buses going to Rajpur Road will be Orient Chowk, instead of Parade Ground.
- The new drop/pick-up point for city buses going to Doiwala and Sahastradhara will be Rangers Ground instead of Parade Ground.
Diversion Arrangements - In case of heavy traffic congestion, traffic will be diverted.
- Paltan Bazaar, Dhamawala Bazaar, Machhi Bazaar, Pipal Mandi, etc. will be completely zero zones for all types of vehicles. Only pedestrians will be allowed to enter.
- In case of heavy traffic congestion at Survey Chowk, traffic coming from Raipur will be diverted from Curzon Road intersection to Municipal Road.
- In case of heavy traffic congestion at Ghantaghar, traffic coming from Rajpur Road will be diverted from Orient Chowk to Kanak Chowk. Traffic coming from Darshan Lal towards Ghantaghar will be diverted to Lansdowne Chowk.
- In case of traffic congestion at Dharampur Chowk, traffic coming from Mata Mandir Road will be diverted to Race Course. Traffic going from Nehru Colony intersection to Dharampur will be diverted to Phabara Chowk.
Parking Arrangements
Kabul House, near Survey Chowk, Janpath Complex, Bindal, Rangers Ground near Buddha Chowk, MDDA Complex Ghantaghar, Multi-Storage Parking at Kanak Chowk, Mangala Devi Inter College Campus, CNI School, near Paltan Bazaar, Old Bus Stand, near Drona Hotel, Gandhi Inter College, near Paltan Bazaar, vacant ground in front of Prabhat Cut, Rajiv Gandhi Complex Tehsil Chowk, Darbar Sahib, near Tehsil Chowk, Municipal Corporation Office Complex and Police Office, near Doon Hospital.
Police arrangements: Traffic duty has been imposed to manage traffic during this period. These include 5 TIs, 25 Inspectors, 15 TSIs, 35 SIs, 25 Head Constables, 60 Constables, 150 Civil Police Constables, 100 RCs, 70 Home Guards, and 70 PRD personnel. In addition, adequate police duty has also been imposed at the police station level.
Advisory Regarding Traffic Plan
- Parking vehicles in no-parking zones will result in towing by a traffic crane. The fine is ₹1,200.
- Avoid inconvenience by parking vehicles in designated parking spaces, shopping in local markets, and using two-wheelers as much as possible.
- During the festive season, use private vehicles only when necessary and use public transport (rickshaws, tempos, city buses) as much as possible.
- All shopping complex operators are expected to keep their premises’ basement parking open to the public. Otherwise, legal proceedings will be initiated against the person involved.
- You can park your vehicle in the designated parking lot and shop or explore without worry.
- To avoid traffic congestion during the festive season, prioritize online shopping and avoid unnecessary crowds on the roads.
- To avoid traffic jams, please complete your shopping on time and avoid last-minute rush.
SSP Ajay Singh stated that in view of the expected large number of people visiting the main markets for shopping during the festive season, traffic arrangements were inspected at the Clock Tower and police arrangements were reviewed by visiting the Paltan Bazaar and Lakkhi Bagh areas. Clear instructions were given to all shopkeepers and major firecracker sellers to sell firecrackers only at the locations designated by the administration. Additionally, correspondence has been made with the District Magistrate requesting additional police force for traffic safety and peacekeeping duties in view of the major festivals.
