The high-handedness of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman (MNS) has once again come to the fore in Mumbai. In Thane, an MNS worker slapped a woman and forced her to apologize for mistreating her husband. A video of the incident is going viral on social media. The MNS worker slapping the woman has been identified as Swara Ghate. The MNS worker forced the woman to apologize to the people of Maharashtra. In Mumbai, MNS workers assaulted a businessman on Mira Road for not speaking Hindi. Several other incidents followed.
A brawl at a railway station
MNS leaders claim that the husband of an MNS worker bumped into a woman while she was getting off a local train at Kalwa railway station in Thane during rush hour. They claimed that when the man apologized, the woman became enraged and began abusing him. She allegedly used derogatory language against Marathi people and even slapped him. The MNS worker’s husband alleged that the woman grabbed his collar and assaulted him. Angered by this, the man’s wife took the woman to the party office in Kalwa.
She demanded an apology, then slapped her
In a video from the MNS office, the woman apologizes. She says, “Something happened to me at Kalwa station. I abused and assaulted a Maharashtrian man. I apologize to the entire Maharashtra and the people of Maharashtra for this.” The MNS worker (the man’s wife) then says, “A woman assaults a man. He doesn’t say anything to her. Why does the law only apply to women? She continued abusing my husband for half an hour. I was about to file a case against her, but considering her daughter and her family, I’m letting her go.” After this, Ghate, a female MNS worker, slapped her and told her not to repeat such a thing to the people of Maharashtra. “Get it?” Supriya Sule has responded to the incident, saying that the police should investigate.
