Uttarakhand: CM Dhami conducted a site inspection of the Champawat-Tanakpur road and directed for a permanent solution in the Swala danger zone.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday conducted a field inspection of the Swala Danger Zone on the Tanakpur National Highway in his Champawat constituency. Frequent landslides in this area were disrupting public movement. The Chief Minister visited the site and took a firsthand look at the landslide-affected hillside, the condition of the debris, the drainage system, and the stability of the road.

During the inspection, District Magistrate Manish Kumar provided detailed information to the Chief Minister regarding the geographical location of the Swala landslide site, the amount of debris, the direction of water flow, the nature of the geological structure, and the availability of alternative routes.

Chief Minister Dhami directed officials to develop a concrete technical plan for a permanent solution in the Swala area so that traffic on this route is not disrupted in the future. He stated that the route will be fully operational and operational by 2026.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government prioritizes the safety of residents and travelers in this area. He directed the concerned departments to monitor relief and restoration operations in landslide-affected areas 24 hours a day.

He said that adequate machinery, JCBs, and manpower should be kept ready to remove debris from the highway so that immediate action can be taken in case of any emergency. He also directed that alternative routes should be kept fully operational and safe.

The Chief Minister also directed the local administration to periodically update the people of villages along the route and ensure the availability of relief materials as needed.

Chief Minister Dhami said that the state government is continuously working on permanent geological solutions to such vulnerable areas so that the state’s roads remain operational in all weather conditions. He said that the Champawat-Tanakpur road is the lifeline of regional transportation and the economy of the border areas, and therefore, it is being developed with utmost priority.
