In view of Diwali and other festive celebrations, the Uttarakhand government has launched a major campaign against adulterated food items across the state. Under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Food Safety Tajbar Singh Jaggi, continuous inspections and sampling are being conducted in all districts.
Surprise inspections conducted overnight in Dehradun
A special campaign was launched against adulterated food items in Dehradun. In compliance with the Commissioner’s instructions, a special inspection campaign began at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, with Food Safety and Drug Administration teams conducting surprise inspections in Selaqui, Vikasnagar, Rishikesh, and Mussoorie areas. Approximately 60 kg of cheese being distributed in unsanitary conditions from a scooter in Vikasnagar was destroyed on the spot. In Selaqui, approximately 120 kg of cheese was also seized from a Honda City vehicle being distributed in unhygienic conditions. The team took samples and destroyed the remaining cheese at the Sheeshamwada Trenching Ground.

Major action taken against sweets manufacturing units in Haridwar
On Wednesday, a team raided two sweets manufacturing units in the Padartha Haridwar Mustafabad area. During the inspection, the team found that sweets were being prepared amidst filth and mud. Due to violations of hygiene standards, approximately two quintals of Batisa were destroyed on the spot. Meanwhile, one factory was ordered to be closed immediately for lacking a food license. The team collected one sample each of Gulab Jamun and white Rasgulla, and three samples of Batisa and sent them for testing.
