A zero-tolerance policy regarding road safety will be implemented in Uttarakhand. Violators will be subjected to even stricter measures than before. Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan stated this while reviewing the State Road Safety Fund Management Committee. He also issued other important guidelines to officials.

A decision has been made to take strict action against those violating road safety rules in the state. Officials have been directed to take all necessary steps to improve road safety and also to prepare proposals for amendments to the rules, if necessary. In fact, cases of violations related to road safety have been frequently reported, raising concerns for the administration.

In light of these circumstances, Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan, during the review of the State Road Safety Fund Management Committee, called for necessary and strict measures. It was clarified that strict action should be taken against those violating the rules, so that such individuals can improve their behavior in the future.

Significantly, the Chief Secretary has directed the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy in road safety, ensuring prompt action against road safety violations. Transport police and related departments have also been instructed to ensure 100% enforcement of road safety standards, not partial action.

Importantly, if necessary, state-level amendments to such regulations have been requested. The Chief Secretary has also directed that licenses of those who violate red lights be suspended for up to three months. Furthermore, in cases where challan proceedings have already been initiated and the compounding process is not complete, such vehicles should be tracked through CCTV cameras and strict action should be taken against them.

The review also discussed solutions to traffic problems. The committee also directed the preparation of proposals regarding technical equipment, traffic lights, and streetlights to digitalize and automate traffic operations. This means that the government intends to bring traffic in the state to autonomous mode. To alleviate traffic congestion, particularly in urban areas.

A public awareness campaign has also been developed to improve traffic management in the state. Furthermore, the Transport and Health Departments have been asked to jointly develop concrete proposals for heli-ambulance and medical emergency options in case of road accidents.
