After a long wait and political confusion, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announced its candidates for 143 seats on Monday, the day of Diwali. The list includes new candidates for two assembly seats in Sitamarhi district: Runnisaidpur and Parihar. Several longtime ticket contenders have been dealt a blow. Veena Devi has been nominated for the Mokama seat in Patna district. In Mokama, she will face NDA candidate Anant Singh.
For the Bihar Assembly elections, the RJD has nominated Ritlal Yadav from the Danapur seat in Patna, Anirudh Yadav from Bakhtiyarpur, Rekha Gupta from Bankipur, and Rekha Paswan from Masaurhi.
JDU MLA Dilip Rai did not receive a ticket
Dilip Rai, the current JDU MLA from Sursand, failed to secure a ticket from either party this time. He had been preparing to contest from Runnisaidpur after joining the RJD for the past few months. He even considered himself a potential candidate and began an active public relations campaign in the area. However, the RJD ultimately denied him a ticket.
Block Chief Chandan Yadav Opportunity for Runnisaidpur
This time, the RJD has placed its faith in Sitamarhi Block Chief Chandan Yadav for the Runnisaidpur Assembly seat (No. 29). The party has sidelined other contenders, including former MLA Mangita Devi. It is being reported that Chandan Yadav received the ticket based on his grassroots presence and closeness to the organization.
Dr. Smita Purve gets ticket for Parihar seat
RJD has taken a new tack this time for the Parihar Assembly seat (No. 25). Last time, RJD Women’s Cell State President Ritu Jaiswal was the runner-up, but this time the party did not give her the ticket. Dr. Smita Purve has been fielded in her place. Smita is the daughter-in-law of former minister Ramchandra Purve and has been involved in social work for a long time.
Two old faces are trusted in Sitamarhi and Sursand
RJD has given a second chance to Sunil Kumar Kushwaha from Sitamarhi Assembly constituency (No. 28) and Abu Dojana from Sursand Assembly constituency (No. 26). Both leaders were runners-up in the last election, but the party has reaffirmed its confidence in them.
