Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami purchased earthen lamps, utensils, and other traditional indigenous items from local shops on Chakrata Road in Dehradun on the occasion of Diwali. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also interacted with local shopkeepers, potters, and artisans, encouraging them to promote traditional crafts.
During his Diwali shopping, the Chief Minister purchased goods through digital payment (UPI) and urged the general public to purchase as many local products and indigenous goods as possible, thereby strengthening the commitment of small businesses, artisans, and a self-reliant India.
The Chief Minister said,
“The festival of Diwali symbolizes light and prosperity. On this auspicious occasion, we should encourage our country’s artisans and local entrepreneurs. Purchasing indigenous products not only keeps our traditions alive but also strengthens the commitment to ‘Vocal for Local.'”
During his Diwali shopping, Chief Minister Dhami also personally interacted with shopkeepers on Chakrata Road. Shopkeepers told the Chief Minister that goods have become cheaper this year due to lower GST rates, resulting in higher sales than in previous years.
The Chief Minister expressed his happiness and noted that there has been a significant increase in business during Diwali this year. He said that this change is also a result of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call to “adopt swadeshi” and “vocal for local,” which has led to people shopping more and more from local shopkeepers.
He appealed to the people of the state to light their homes with indigenous earthen lamps this Diwali and make the fragrance of Indian tradition and culture a part of their celebrations. This initiative by the Chief Minister created an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm among local traders and shopkeepers.
