The country celebrated Diwali yesterday. Following the Supreme Court’s permission to burst green crackers, people burst them with great enthusiasm. The very next day after Diwali, the capital’s air quality once again dropped from “very poor” to “severe.” In many areas, the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 400, making it difficult for people to breathe. Regarding the rising pollution, a local resident said, “The pollution has been increasing for years, not just today. Delhiites have become accustomed to it now.”
Delhi is under so much stress
Speaking to news agency ANI, a Delhi resident said, “Do you know how much stress Delhi is under? More than 20 million people, including locals and those coming from other states, live here. There’s pollution, water pollution, and so much filth. You can’t fix that.” He added, “Until you can fix other cities in the country, you can’t do anything.”
The government isn’t the only one responsible for this
The person said, “You might say that politicians and the government aren’t doing anything. But it’s not just the government that’s responsible for this; the people are just as responsible as the government.” Citing the example of people, he said, “People smoke tobacco and throw away the paper and wrappers… People are also bursting firecrackers. How much can the police stop them? Even the police are afraid. If someone makes a video of them, they’ll lose their jobs. So, people themselves are like this; they don’t want change themselves. It’s not right to blame only the government for this.”
First, they burst firecrackers, then they talk…
The person said, “People burst firecrackers in abundance, and then they say that Delhi is polluted. The government isn’t doing anything about it. Finally, I would like to say that people here need to improve themselves; it’s not right to blame the government for everything.”
