In Dharampur, under the Nehru Colony police station area, a dispute erupted within a joint family over kittens. Believing them to be inauspicious, one brother put them in the trunk of his scooter and abandoned them somewhere far away. This angered the other brother’s family. The dispute escalated to the point where the matter reached the police station. The niece accused her uncle, aunt, and their sons of cruelty to the kittens and threatening to kill them.

Following the complaint, the Nehru Colony police have registered a case under the Animal Cruelty Act and other charges. Station House Officer Sanjeet Kumar stated that the complainant, Rashmi Dhiman, submitted a complaint to the Fountain Chowk outpost in-charge on October 13th, stating that in March, a cat had left two kittens at her home, which she was caring for. Her uncle, Umesh Dhiman, and aunt, who lived in her house, were concerned about the kittens. They shared a common courtyard. The uncle’s family believed that cats were inauspicious.

Rashmi alleges that her uncle inhumanely locked her cats in the trunk of his scooter and abandoned them somewhere. She alleges that when she protested, her aunt and her three sons entered her home and threatened to kill her. Rashmi has demanded police action, citing threats from everyone.
