The Dhami government is convening a two-day special session of the Assembly in Dehradun on November 3rd and 4th to mark Uttarakhand’s State Foundation Day. However, the Congress party has sharply criticized the government for the short duration of the special session. State Congress President Karan Mahra demanded that the special session’s duration be extended to nine days, and also launched a scathing attack on the BJP.

Demand for a nine-day session: Uttarakhand Congress State President Karan Mahra said that while it is a matter of great joy that the state is about to complete 25 years, the government is making a mockery of it by convening a two-day special session on November 3rd and 4th. He demanded that the session be at least nine days long.

He said that the government should have continued the session from November 3rd to November 9th, the State Foundation Day. Only then would issues of public concern have been raised in the session, and people would have been able to learn about the disaster situation in Uttarakhand during the monsoon season and the current situation.

Karan Mahara said that if the session had been extended, the House would have also discussed the state’s economic situation. Scams have occurred twice in recruitment exams in the state, in 2022 and 2025. Furthermore, crime is on the rise, particularly crimes against women. Law and order has also deteriorated.

“The elected representatives of the people want to discuss with the government the deteriorating law and order situation, crimes against women, corruption, mining, unemployment, and other pressing issues. However, by calling a two-day special session, the government has proven its inability to respond to the public.” – Karan Mahara, State President, Uttarakhand Congress

Had the session been held in Gairsain, the true spirit of a mountainous state would have been realized: He questioned, “Who calls a two-day session? If the special session were reduced to a minimum of nine days and the government held the session in Gairsain, the true spirit of a mountainous state would have been realized. Why was this mountainous state created?”

Karan Mahara raised the question, “What was the original concept of this state? Why did the people here demand a separate state? If the state was to be respected, then the BJP should have held this session in Gairsain. A session lasting at least 8 to 9 days would have been beneficial for the state and its people.”
