In view of the upcoming cold weather and potential La Niña conditions in Uttarakhand, the Electricity Department has intensified its preparations. UPCL Managing Director Anil Kumar has instructed all officials to ensure all arrangements are made in advance to ensure there are no disruptions to power supply during cold, fog, rain, and snowfall.
UPCL Alert Before the Impact of La Niña and Severe Cold
UPCL Managing Director Anil Kumar stated that power lines and transformers may be affected by the weather during winter. Therefore, each power distribution division will be required to inspect the network in their respective areas and carry out necessary repairs and technical work.
UPCL Managing Director directed that special inspections will be conducted on all 33/11 kV substations, feeders, and transformers. It will also be ensured that adequate supplies such as transformers, trolleys, cables, conductors, and insulators are available so that repairs can be carried out immediately in the event of a fault.
Instructions given to keep emergency repair teams on standby at the field level
The Managing Director has also directed that emergency repair teams at the field level be kept on standby and that all necessary equipment be checked. Furthermore, in light of the increasing power consumption, regular monitoring of load management and line losses has been directed.
Anil Kumar has instructed officials to submit weekly preparedness reports to headquarters for state-level monitoring. Meanwhile, UPCL has appealed to the public to avoid approaching exposed wires or fallen poles during rain, snowfall, or storms.
