Uttarakhand: Social organizations and opposition political parties protested in Dehradun demanding the release of Sonam Wangchuk.

Sonam Wangchuk’s fight is a fight to save the Himalayas, and from Uttarakhand to Ladakh, the Himalayas are our future. With this call, a massive protest demanding Sonam Wangchuk’s release was held in Dehradun on Sunday. Representatives from several social organizations and opposition political parties participated in the protest, organized under the banner of the Sonam Wangchuk Rihai Manch. The protest was held in front of the gate of Gandhi Park on Rajpur Road.

Several speakers spoke on the occasion, demanding Sonam Wangchuk’s immediate release. They stated that the central RSS-BJP government wants to jail anyone who does not speak their language. As long as Sonam Wangchuk supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he was considered a hero for the BJP. Then, as soon as he said that the BJP should fulfill its promise to the people of Ladakh by implementing the Sixth Schedule, he became a traitor for the BJP.

Speakers said that if going to Pakistan constitutes treason, then Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the biggest traitor, having gone uninvited to attend the Pakistani Prime Minister’s personal event. Speakers also said that by arresting Sonam Wangchuk, the central government has attempted to intimidate those who criticize the government.

They said that the outspoken protests across the country against this arrest have made it clear that the government’s efforts have failed. They also stated that the BJP is attempting to discredit those who criticize the government through its toxic social media handles.

Dr. Ravi Chopra, Dr. SN Sachan, Nirmala Bisht, Vijay Bhatt, Jaya Singh, Surendra Sajwan, Latafat Hussain, Malika Roy, Trilochan Bhatt, Kavita Krishnapallavi, Nitin Maletha, Manish Kedial, Jagdish Kuliyal, VK Doval, Vinod Nautiyal, Dharmanand Lakhera, Sheeshram Kanswal, Ishwar Pal Sharma, Mohit Dimri, Rajiv Magan, etc. expressed their views in the demonstration.

Samdarshi Bardhwal read out the proposal of Sonam Wangchuk Rihayi Manch. The program was presided over by Kamala Pant and conducted by Hariom Pali. Satish Dholakhandi started the program with a folk song. The program concluded with a song by Arun and his team. A signature campaign was also launched on this occasion for the release of Sonam Wangchuk.
