Anganwadi workers in the Doiwala area of ​​Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, staged a strong protest on Monday over their harassment and low honorarium. The workers reached the Doiwala tehsil office and raised slogans, expressing their anger against the government. They said they have been deprived of minimum wages and social security for years, yet the government continues to ignore their voices.

Memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister

Led by the union’s state president, Sushila Khatri, Anganwadi workers submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami through the Tehsildar. In the memorandum, they demanded an increase in the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and the provision of benefits under labor laws.

Sushila Khatri said, “Our work boycott will continue until our demands are met. We will not cooperate in any departmental or non-departmental work.”

He warned that if the government did not take any concrete steps soon, Anganwadi workers across the state would surround the Secretariat on October 30.

Anganwadi worker Seema Devi said she is assisting her department as well as other departments. “We are expected to fulfill every responsibility, but we receive neither the benefits of labor laws nor the right to social security. We will not sit silent,” she said.

Seema Devi said that the role of Anganwadi workers is the backbone of every women and child development program in the villages, but they do not get honorarium according to their work.

State President Sushila Khatri said that Anganwadi workers are now completely united. “We waited for years for the government to increase our honorarium, but now our patience has run out. If the government doesn’t agree, we will take to the streets and demand our rights.”

He said that workers from all districts of the state would participate in the upcoming Secretariat siege. This movement would continue until their demands were met.
