Justice Suryakant will become the 53rd CJI of the country, he will take oath on this day

The Central Government has appointed Justice Suryakant as the 53rd Chief Justice of India. The Department of Justice, Ministry of Law, has issued a notification for this purpose. Justice Suryakant will assume the office of CJI on November 24th. He will replace the current Chief Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai, whose term will end on November 23rd.

Justice Suryakant will become the 53rd CJI of India. A resident of Haryana, Justice Suryakant has handled many important judicial cases and decisions in his career. On July 7, 2000, he became the youngest person to be appointed Advocate General of Haryana. The following year, he was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate.
He served as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court from January 9, 2004. He then assumed the position of Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in 2018. He was then appointed as a Supreme Court judge in 2019.
He will succeed Justice B.R. Gavai
He will serve as Chief Justice for approximately 15 months. He will succeed the current Chief Justice B.R. Gavai on November 24, 2025. He will retire on February 9, 2027, upon attaining the age of 65. Consequently, he will serve as Chief Justice from November 24, 2025, to February 9, 2027.
