NCERT has made a major decision. A major change has been made to the school science syllabus. NCERT has included chapters on Ayurveda in the science syllabus for classes 6 to 8. This move is based on the core idea of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
School students will be taught about health, nutrition, and environmental balance from an Indian perspective. NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani says the goal is to impart not only scientific knowledge to students but also to introduce them to the principles of physical and mental well-being.
NCERT Science Syllabus Changed: Ayurveda will now be taught to students in classes 6 and 8
The NCERT Class 6 Science book has added fundamental principles such as the 20 qualities of Ayurveda. While topics such as Daily Routine and Seasonal Discipline have been added to the Class 8 chapters, these changes are not limited to textbooks. These changes are also a first step toward inspiring students to appreciate India’s scientific heritage. Beyond school, there are plans to incorporate Ayurveda into higher education.
What changes will occur in the NCERT school syllabus?
The scientific principles of Ayurveda have now been included in NCERT’s new science textbooks, enabling children to better understand health and the body.
Class 6 textbook: Students will learn about the “Classification of Matter,” as well as the 20 opposing qualities of Ayurveda (such as hot-cold, light-heavy, dry-wet, etc.). This will help children understand how the body and substances interact and why balance is essential for healthy living.
Class 8 science textbook: A new chapter titled “Ayurveda: Balance of Body, Mind, and Environment” has been added. In this, children will be told how important daily routine (daily habits), seasonal routine (eating according to the season) and a balanced lifestyle are for good health.
