An elephant was seriously injured after being hit by a train in Tilpuri, Pipal Padav Range, Terai Central Forest Division. The impact was so severe that the elephant fell into a ditch near the track after being hit by the train. It has been writhing in pain ever since. After nearly 15 hours of intense effort, the Forest Department team has barely managed to free the elephant from the ditch. A team of doctors is currently treating the elephant. The elephant’s hind legs were injured due to the train collision, leaving it unable to stand.

According to the Forest Department, a male elephant was injured after being hit by a DMC train traveling from Gularbhoj to Lalkuan late Friday evening. The team arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information. The elephant suffered injuries to its hind legs. Villagers gathered at the scene this morning after receiving information about the elephant’s injuries. A board at the scene of the incident also stated that trains should run at a speed of 30 km/h.

It is noteworthy that in 2021, an elephant and her six-month-old calf died after being hit by a train in the Tilpuri area. Following this, orders were issued to limit train speeds to 30 km/h on the tracks leading to Tanda Forest and Bareilly. The Forest Department has filed a case against the loco pilot under the Wildlife Act.

UC Tiwari, DFO of the Terai Central Forest Division, stated that the incident occurred late Friday evening. The elephant was seriously injured in the train collision. Its hind legs were injured, making it unable to stand. The elephant was taken out of the pit in the afternoon and placed in a dry area. Arrangements have been made on site to ensure it doesn’t suffer from the sun. A three-member team of doctors is treating the elephant. The Mathura Wildlife team, which specializes in treating injured wildlife, has also been contacted.
