The dates for the Ardh Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhand in 2027 have been finalized. This grand event, to be held in Haridwar, will begin on January 14 and conclude on April 20. The 97-day event will include four Shahi Snans (royal baths) and ten other major bathing rituals.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made this announcement on Friday after a meeting with representatives of all 13 akhadas (religious orders) of sadhus and saints on the banks of the Ganges River. On this occasion, he also honored the mahants (heads) and saints of all 13 akhadas. The saints praised the Chief Minister’s decision, calling it a step towards preserving culture, and bestowed their blessings upon him. The Haridwar Ardh Kumbh 2027 will span four months, from January to April.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to establish Uttarakhand as a spiritual capital, the Chief Minister said that, in furtherance of this resolve, the state government has begun preparations to make the 2027 Haridwar Ardh Kumbh a historic event, on par with a full Kumbh Mela. He said that the Kumbh Mela held in 2021 could only be organized for a short period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Shahi Snans were also performed symbolically. However, the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh in 2027 will be historically significant and special in many respects.
