Pakistan has acknowledged that recent times have not been good for its army. Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed concern over the increasing attacks on soldiers and blamed the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan for this. Dar stated that 4,000 Pakistani soldiers have been killed since the Taliban’s return to Kabul in 2021, while more than 20,000 have been injured.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said on Saturday that 4,000 Pakistani soldiers have been killed in the last four years. He said that the military losses Pakistan has suffered since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan are now becoming unbearable. Dar appealed to the Taliban government to take action against anti-Pakistan groups, especially the TTP.
TTP fighters infiltrate
Dar said that TTP fighters have infiltrated from the Afghan border and carried out attacks in Pakistan. He also claimed that the Taliban government has taken some steps in response to Pakistan’s appeals for action against the TTP. The Taliban government has arrested hundreds of TTP fighters.
Regarding the closure of the Afghan border, Dar said that Pakistan took this decision out of necessity for security reasons. Dar said that Pakistan only wants that Afghan territory should not be used against it. Certain things have happened from Afghanistan that have forced Pakistan to take strict measures.
Qatar prevented the attack
Dar also said that last month, at the behest of Qatar, Pakistan canceled its military operation against Afghanistan. Referring to the tensions with Kabul, Dar said, “Qatar learned that we were going to take action against Afghanistan. Qatar immediately offered mediation. We then stopped our operation.”
He said that not much came out of this mediation. Qatar is also unhappy that its efforts were in vain. Dar said that Pakistan is in favor of peace. We have appealed to the Afghan Taliban to reconsider their policies so that a path to peace can be found between the two countries and stability can be promoted in the region.
