Uttarakhand: Police gear up for Christmas and New Year celebrations, release traffic plan for Dehradun and Mussoorie

Dehradun Police has geared up for the upcoming Christmas, New Year, and Mussoorie Winter Carnival. A large number of tourists from other states are expected during this period. Keeping this in mind, Dehradun has made special arrangements for traffic management and the safety of tourists.

The police have identified parking areas for all major events, including Christmas, New Year, and the Mussoorie Winter Carnival, as well as other winter tourism activities. A route plan has also been released to ensure that the general public of Dehradun city and tourists do not face any difficulties.

Traffic plan for vehicles going to Mussoorie:

  • The route plan for tourists going to Mussoorie from Delhi, Roorkee, and Saharanpur via Mohand is as follows: Delhi/Roorkee/Saharanpur – Mohand – Asharodi – ISBT – Shimla Bypass – Saint Jude Chowk – Ballupur Chowk – Garhi Cantt Tiraaha – Anarwala Tiraaha – Johri Gaon – Mussoorie Road – Kuthal Gate – Mussoorie.

Vehicles coming from Tehri Bus Stand in Mussoorie towards Dehradun will be diverted towards the Civil Hospital in Mussoorie

  • Vehicles of passengers staying overnight in Landour, Mussoorie, will be parked in the MDDA parking lot.
  • Vehicles going towards Dehradun will be diverted from the Mussoorie Municipal Office towards the Picture Palace Bus Stand in Mussoorie.
  • Vehicles going from Mussoorie Library towards Picture Palace, Mussoorie, will be diverted from Ambedkar Chowk (Ghoda Stand) Mussoorie towards Camel Back Road, then through Green Chowk, Kulri Bazaar, and finally from Picture Palace Barrier towards their respective destinations.
  • Vehicles going from Mussoorie to Dehradun will be diverted from King Craig, through JP Band, towards Barlowganj, and then towards Dehradun via Jharipani.
  • Vehicles going from Picture Palace, Mussoorie, towards Dehradun will be diverted from Bada Mod near Picture Palace, through Wynberg Allen School, towards Barlowganj, and then towards Dehradun.
  • In case of traffic congestion at Library Chowk, Mussoorie, vehicles going from Dehradun towards Kempty will be diverted from Spring Road, through Kala School, via Harnam Singh Marg, from Zero Point towards Kempty Falls.
  • In case of traffic congestion in Mussoorie, vehicles will be diverted from Gajji Band towards Hathi Paon.
    The entry of heavy vehicles coming from Vikasnagar, Dehradun, and Suwakholi towards Mussoorie will be restricted during the daytime.
  • The road from Green Chowk through Jhulaghar towards Mall Road Library Chowk will be one-way. Vehicles will be prohibited from Ambedkar Chowk towards Garhwal Terrace, Jhulaghar, and Mall Road.

In case of traffic congestion in Kulri Bazaar, vehicles will be diverted towards Brettwood Hotel and then towards Clark Hotel. Parking areas for vehicles in the Mussoorie area:

Traffic and Parking Plan for Dehradun City during Winter Weekend, Christmas, and New Year:

  • If there is traffic congestion at Pacific Mall, Rajpur Road, traffic coming from Mussoorie towards Ghanta Ghar will be diverted from Sai Mandir T-junction to IT Park.
  • Traffic coming from Annex, CSD T-junction towards Dilaram Chowk will be diverted via Johri Gaon.
  • In case of traffic congestion at Ghanta Ghar, traffic will be diverted from Orient Chowk, Buddha Chowk, and Tehsil Chowk as needed.

The police have clarified that from December 30, 2025, to January 1, 2026, from 2 PM to 5 AM, there will be a complete restriction on internal and external routes of the city. Vehicles of essential services (Ambulance, police, fire, etc.) will not be stopped or diverted. In addition, vehicles providing essential services (petrol/milk/gas, etc.) will be allowed to pass through alternative routes. Vehicles parked in the NO Parking Zone will be towed by a traffic crane. Necessary legal action will be taken. Please be patient and avoid unnecessary use of horns. Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh has appealed to people not to drive under the influence of alcohol.
