Bottlenecks (narrow roads) in Nainital have always been a cause of traffic jams. The narrow road between Kathgodam and Ranibagh leads to traffic congestion all the way to Kathgodam.

Bypass to be built in Ranibagh
Considering this problem, a bypass of approximately 3.5 kilometers is to be constructed from the Kathgodam bridge along the banks of the Gaula River by cutting through the hills. The process for this has been expedited. The bypass received in-principle approval in November. Estimates and other requirements have already been sent to the government.

This entire process also involves utility shifting, for which a budget of Rs. 3 crore has been allocated. Nainital District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal said that the bypass will primarily benefit travelers going to and from Kainchi Dham from Kathgodam, as well as tourists and other travelers heading towards the hills. Further action from the government is currently awaited.
