Uttarakhand STF’s biggest operation: Heroin worth over 2 crore rupees seized, plan was to supply it to Nepal

Three interstate drug traffickers have been arrested in the Banbasa area of Champawat with approximately 800 grams of heroin. The seized heroin is estimated to be worth around 24 million rupees in the international market, making it the largest seizure so far in 2025.

The Kumaon unit of the Special Task Force (STF), in a joint operation with the SOG Champawat and Banbasa police station, apprehended the traffickers. The arrested individuals have been identified as Surajdeep Singh, Karnail Singh, and Gurmeet Singh, all residents of Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, the three accused had been actively involved in the drug trade for a long time.
The plan was to send the drug consignment to Nepal
STF SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar informed that the accused used to supply heroin from Uttar Pradesh to Nepal and various districts of Uttarakhand. During questioning, the accused confessed that they were planning to send the seized consignment to Nepal. The seized heroin is estimated to be worth around 24 million rupees in the international market. According to the STF, the accused used to smuggle narcotics on motorcycles without license plates.
The accused had previously smuggled drugs in Uttarakhand and other states
STF SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar further informed that one of the accused already has several criminal cases registered against him in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary questioning also revealed that these traffickers had previously supplied large consignments of drugs to Uttarakhand, Nepal, Mumbai, and Goa.
