For some time now, the people of Uttarakhand have been troubled by the menace of wild animals. Wild animals are venturing into residential areas, preying on livestock and even attacking humans. Consequently, incidents of human-wildlife conflict have increased in Uttarakhand. Today, the Congress party held a protest against the government in Pauri Garhwal regarding these issues. Uttarakhand Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal was also present at the protest.
Congress leaders and workers demanded that the state government provide relief to the people from the threat of wild animals. They urged the government to take concrete steps in this direction. Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal said that people have already migrated from the hills due to unemployment and lack of basic amenities. Now, those who remain in the villages and are trying to make a living are living in constant fear of wild animals.
Due to animals like bears and leopards, villagers have stopped going to their fields. Women are unable to go into the forests to collect fodder for their livestock. People in rural areas are unable to engage in farming and horticulture. This is not only affecting their daily lives but also posing a direct threat to their livelihoods.
During the protest, the Congress demanded that immediate and effective decisions be taken in areas where leopard activity and attacks are frequently reported. They called for increased monitoring by the Forest Department, intensified patrolling in sensitive areas, and the deployment of expert teams if necessary, so that villagers can carry out their daily activities without fear.
Congress leaders warned that if the government does not take positive steps soon, the party will intensify the agitation. They stated that the safety and security of the people is the primary responsibility of the government, and any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.
The state government is proving completely ineffective in protecting the people remaining in the hills. Incidents of wild animal attacks are reported daily, but the government has neither a concrete policy nor an effective action plan. As a result, villagers are constantly falling victim to wild animals, which reflects the government’s failure. –Ganesh Godiyal, State President, Congress–
Ganesh Godiyal alleges that the government and its top leadership are only holding meetings, while officials are unwilling to take any action on the ground. District Panchayat member Poonam Kaintura added that the government has become completely indifferent to the rural population. She demanded that clear orders be issued at the village level to control the menace of wild animals wherever it exists. The government is merely making empty promises, which the Congress will not tolerate under any circumstances.
