The pollution situation in Delhi is getting worse. In view of the deteriorating air quality, the government has taken a major decision. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has banned coal or wood-fired tandoors in all hotels, restaurants, and street food stalls in the capital. Under Section 31(A) of the Air Act, 1981, all establishments have been instructed to switch to gas, electricity, or other clean fuels.

According to the DPCC, cooking with coal and wood is contributing to local pollution, which is why the Air Quality Index is continuously deteriorating. Urban local bodies have been instructed to comply with this order and conduct inspections throughout the city. This order has been implemented with immediate effect. This means that you will no longer find tandoori roti, chicken, or soya chaap cooked in tandoors in Delhi.

Strict rules under GRAP Stage-4
After Delhi’s air turned toxic, the strict rules of Stage-4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) have also been implemented. This includes a ban on the entry of trucks into Delhi, except for those providing essential services. However, CNG, LNG, electric, and BS-6 diesel trucks will be allowed entry. BS-4 and lower category diesel heavy goods vehicles will not be permitted to operate.

Classes to be held in hybrid mode
Due to the pollution, people are now experiencing problems such as eye irritation, cough, and difficulty breathing. Considering this, the government has also taken a decision regarding schools in Delhi. With GRAP-4 implemented, classes for students in grades 9 to 11 will be conducted in a hybrid mode, offering both offline and online options.
