Today, December 18, 2025, the G Ram G Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha amidst massive uproar and protests. This bill will replace the 20-year-old MGNREGA. The opposition created a huge ruckus over the bill, even tearing up and throwing the bill’s documents. The situation in the House became so chaotic that the proceedings had to be adjourned until tomorrow.
G Ram G Bill Passed Amidst Heavy Protests VB-G-RAM-G Bill
On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha witnessed a 14-hour discussion on the VB-G-RAM-G Bill. The proceedings continued until 1:35 AM. 98 MPs participated in the discussion. The opposition demanded that the proposed law be sent to the Standing Committee. However, the bill was passed amidst strong opposition.
Opposition Tears Up and Throws Papers in the House
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh responded in the Lok Sabha to the VB-G Ram G Bill, which is the Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Bill. During this time, the opposition continued to raise slogans and protest against the bill. Some MPs even reached the well of the House and threw papers.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “We do not discriminate against anyone. Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) is our inspiration and our reverence. The entire country is one for us. The country is not just a piece of land for us. Our thoughts are not narrow or limited.”
Opposition Demands Sending the Law to the Standing Committee
Congress MP K.C. Venugopal said that the bill should be sent to a Standing Committee or a Joint Parliamentary Committee. However, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that the bill had already been debated for more than 14 hours, and therefore, their request could not be accepted. Following this, the opposition demanded that Shivraj Singh continue the debate.
‘Congress’s Obsession with Naming Things’ – Shivraj Singh
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh said, “How many schemes have been named after the Nehru family? 55 state government schemes have been named after Rajiv Gandhi. 74 roads are named after Rajiv Gandhi, and 15 national parks are named after Nehru. The obsession with naming things belongs to the Congress.” It’s worth noting that on December 16, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi had stated that they oppose this bill. She said she couldn’t understand this obsession with renaming every scheme.
