Modi becomes the first Indian PM to receive the ‘Order of Oman’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received another major recognition of his international standing. During his visit to Oman, he was awarded the country’s highest civilian honor, the ‘Order of Oman’. This honor has been bestowed upon only a select few global leaders and distinguished personalities.
Previously, this honor has been awarded to Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, Emperor Akihito of Japan, former South African President Nelson Mandela, and King Abdullah II of Jordan.
PM Modi now has 29 global honors
With this award, Prime Minister Modi now has 29 global honors to his name. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to receive such a large number of the highest civilian honors from various countries. This achievement reflects India’s growing diplomatic strength, global leadership, and strong presence on international platforms.
2025: A very special year in terms of honors
The year 2025 has been particularly special for Prime Minister Modi in terms of international honors. This year, several countries have bestowed their highest civilian awards upon him. In July, Namibian President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah honored Prime Minister Modi with Namibia’s highest civilian honor, the ‘Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis’.
Following this, on July 7, Brazilian President Lula da Silva presented him with Brazil’s highest civilian honor, the ‘Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross’.
Taking India’s relations in South Asia to new heights
On July 4, the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Christine Carla Kangaloo, honored Prime Minister Modi with the country’s highest national award, ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’. On July 2, the Government of Ghana conferred upon him the ‘Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’ award.
Prime Minister Modi also received special recognition in Europe. On June 16, the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, honored him with the ‘Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III’. Taking India’s relations in South Asia to new heights, on April 5, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake conferred the ‘Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan’ award on Prime Minister Modi. This was the first time an Indian leader had received this highest honor.

Additionally, on March 12, the Mauritian government honored Prime Minister Modi with the ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK),’ another first for an Indian leader. On December 16, Ethiopia bestowed upon him ‘The Great Honor Nishan of Ethiopia.’
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley also announced on November 20, 2024, that she would confer the ‘Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados’ on Prime Minister Modi, which was formally received by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita in March 2025. These honors clearly demonstrate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership is being widely appreciated not only in India but also globally.
