Fog can be harmful to your health; take necessary precautions when going outside

The continuously falling temperatures and fog have intensified the chill. Taking care of one’s health is crucial in such weather. Doctors are advising people to be mindful of their health and take necessary precautions when going outside. Dieticians are also recommending paying attention to diet for better immunity during this season.

Dr. Praveen Panwar, Senior Physician at the District Hospital (Coronation), says that in winter, fog not only reduces visibility but also increases several health problems.

Negligence in foggy and cold weather directly leads to an increase in colds, respiratory illnesses, and eye problems. With a little vigilance and regular precautions, the ill effects of fog can be easily avoided. Lifestyle changes are necessary to stay healthy in such weather. Therefore, some important things should be kept in mind.

According to dietician Richa Kukreti, maintaining a healthy diet is essential for good health. Not eating easily digestible food can lead to various health complaints. Therefore, avoid eating anything and everything, anywhere and anytime.

Keep these things in mind:

  • Fog reduces air quality. Cold weather can increase blood pressure and cause uncontrolled blood sugar levels. Therefore, keep drinking lukewarm water.
  • If it is necessary to go out in dense fog, cover your mouth and nose with a muffler or mask so that cold and polluted air does not directly enter the body.
  • Open windows later in the morning, only after the fog has completely cleared. Let fresh air into the house as soon as there is some sunlight.
  • The elderly, children, and asthma and heart patients are at greater risk during foggy weather. They should avoid going out early in the morning and late at night.
  • Fog increases the problem of eye irritation and watery eyes. Wash your eyes with clean water and wear glasses if needed.
  • Maintaining body heat is the simplest way to prevent colds and coughs. Keep your head, ears, and throat well covered. Avoid cold and uncovered foods. Eat warm and freshly prepared meals. Soups, ginger-basil tea, and turmeric milk boost immunity.
  • If you experience cough, shortness of breath, chest tightness, or severe eye irritation, do not ignore it. Consult a doctor immediately.
