A one-day training program was organized for officers and employees of the Revenue and Agriculture Departments of the Garhwal division of the state to conduct the Farmer Registry work for creating digital IDs for all farmers under the AgriStack scheme.
The program, chaired by Secretary, Agriculture/Revenue, S.N. Pandey, and attended by Commissioner and Secretary, Revenue Council, Ranjana Rajguru, included training on AgriStack by Central Government representatives Chinmay Mehta and Harshad Patel, Advisors to the Government of India.
During the training, the representatives of the Government of India informed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, has launched the Farmer Registry to directly connect all farmers in the country with government schemes and to provide them with a digital identity. The Farmer Registry is a database where farmers can register and obtain their digital identity. After successful registration, farmers will receive a unique digital identity, which will be called a Farmer ID or Kisan ID. This 11-digit ID will be generated after the completion of e-KYC and field verification.
In Uttarakhand state, the Proof of Concept (POC) for the Farmer Registry was successfully launched in August 2025 in two revenue villages, Kyari and Latou, of Kalsi tehsil, and two revenue villages, Hanol and Kanda, of Tyuni tehsil in Dehradun district, with the cooperation of the Government of India team. Farmer registries have been experimentally created for 128 farmers in these villages. The training explained that the Farmer Registry work will be carried out by employees of the Agriculture and Revenue Departments, with Agriculture Department personnel acting as registration officers and Revenue Department personnel/officers acting as verifiers and approvers.
It was also informed that the Farmer Registry will facilitate the transparent and timely delivery of benefits to farmers under various government schemes. In the first phase, the Farmer Registry will be prepared for beneficiaries of the PM Kisan Yojana, so that there is no adverse impact on the payment of future installments of the scheme. The availability of accurate information about farmers through the farmer registry will assist the government in planning and formulating various government policies. The farmer registry will also help in providing farmers with benefits such as disaster relief, agricultural subsidies, crop loans, and various insurance schemes, as well as in monitoring agricultural schemes and farmer welfare programs at various levels.
Approximately 200 participants, including Additional District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars, and Chief Agriculture Officers from the districts of Garhwal division, participated in this training program.
