Uttarakhand: CM Dhami inaugurated the MP Sports Festival in Almora and also announced the installation of 200 solar lights and the construction of a hostel

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Sansad Khel Mahotsav (Parliamentary Sports Festival) in Almora on Monday. During the event, he inaugurated football and badminton competitions and honored international cricketer Ekta Bisht and sports coaches.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that a multi-purpose artificial turf ground for day and night use for hockey and football would be constructed at the GIC Ground in Almora district to encourage sporting talent. 200 solar lights will be provided to strengthen the lighting system in the municipal area and promote clean and green energy. A 50-bed hostel will be built at the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Stadium in Almora. The badminton court at the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Stadium will also be renovated to meet international standards.
The Chief Minister said that India’s youth power is the nation’s greatest asset, possessing the ability to realize the dream of a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India through their hard work, talent, and determination. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, youth power is being considered as national power, and work is being done towards building a ‘developed and self-reliant India’. This “Sansad Khel Mahotsav,” organized on the theme of “Fit Youth for Developed India,” is not just a regular sports competition, but a major campaign to promote a sports culture in the country. It will provide a strong platform to bring hidden sporting talents from our villages to the national and international levels, and will also be an effective means of developing qualities such as discipline, self-confidence, team spirit, and fighting spirit in the youth.
The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously working to promote a sports culture in the country through programs like “Khelo India” and “Fit India Movement.” Under his guidance, the state government is promoting a sports culture in the state. With the grand and successful organization of the 38th National Games, Uttarakhand has established itself not only as “Devbhoomi” (Land of Gods) but also as “Khelbhoomi” (Land of Sports). Our players created a new history by winning 103 medals in the National Games. Uttarakhand is now counted among the leading states in the country in terms of world-class sports infrastructure, and the state is now hosting not only national but also international-level sporting events.
The Chief Minister said that the government is soon going to implement a “Sports Legacy Plan” in the state, under which 23 sports academies will be established in eight major cities. Rapid progress is also being made towards establishing Uttarakhand’s first sports university in Haldwani and a women’s sports college in Lohaghat. A new sports policy has also been implemented in the state with the aim of overall development of sports and encouraging athletes, under which medal-winning athletes at the national and international levels are being given government jobs on a priority basis. Emerging young athletes in the state are being continuously encouraged through programs such as the ‘Chief Minister’s Sports Development Fund’, ‘Chief Minister’s Player Promotion Scheme’, ‘Chief Minister’s Emerging Player Scheme’, and the ‘Sports Kit Scheme’.
The Chief Minister said that several important schemes are also being implemented for the overall development of Almora, focusing on improving tourism, employment, and connectivity. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (Prime Minister’s Rural Roads Scheme), more than 250 kilometers of roads have been constructed in Almora district in the last four years. Various motorways have also been constructed and renovated at a cost of crores of rupees. A road connecting Almora-Pauri Garhwal-Rudraprayag has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 400 crore. The widening of the Almora-Bageshwar road has also been approved at a cost of approximately Rs. 922 crore. Under the ‘UDAN scheme’, helicopter services have been started in Almora to promote tourism and facilitate travel. A heliport is being constructed in Phalsima, which will connect the area with better air services and make travel more accessible. To strengthen the drinking water supply in the region, a reservoir project is being undertaken on the Gagas River at a cost of Rs. 31.27 crore. To strengthen healthcare services, 100 new MBBS seats and 36 ICU beds have been added to the Shobhan Singh Jeena Medical Institute, which will further improve medical facilities in the future.
During the program, Member of Parliament and Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta, Mayor of Almora Municipal Corporation Ajay Verma, Jageshwar MLA Mohan Singh Mehra, Vice President of Women Entrepreneurship Council Ganga Bisht, District Panchayat President Hema Gaida, former MLA Kailash Sharma, former MLA Raghunath Singh Chauhan, BJP District President Mahesh Nayal, and many other public representatives were present.
