Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday wrote a letter to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, holding his government responsible for the deteriorating air quality in the capital. In the 15-page letter, LG Saxena said that 11 years of negligence and criminal inaction by the AAP and your government are responsible for the emergency-like air situation in the capital. However, Delhi is currently governed by BJP Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The Delhi LG’s letter to the former Chief Minister comes against the backdrop of the persistent and severe air pollution crisis in the capital.

‘The media will only cover it for 15-20 days’
In the letter, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena referred to November 2022 and wrote that when you were the Chief Minister and I discussed pollution with you, you would say, “Sir, this happens every year. The media covers it for only 15-20 days, activists/courts raise it as an issue, and then everyone forgets about it. You shouldn’t pay attention to it either.”

The LG wrote that after the mandate of February 8, I expected that you and your party would introspect and bring about changes. But with great regret, I have to say that neither have you learned any lessons from the defeat in Delhi, nor has there been any positive change in you or your defeated colleagues. He further said that even today, your politics is based solely on negativity and baseless propaganda.

Support for the Delhi Government
The LG further wrote that until a few days ago, only your colleagues were making baseless statements at your behest, but for the past few days, you too, on the issue of air pollution in Delhi, have started openly engaging in your familiar double-dealing politics. LG Saxena wrote that a government that is only 10 months old, which, unlike you, is working to improve the legacy you left behind on the streets, is being constantly discouraged by you and your colleagues.

Poor AQI during AAP government’s tenure
AAP supremo Kejriwal also faced similar dangerous air quality levels during his tenure. He had promised to take aggressive steps to reduce pollution in the city, similar to the BJP’s election manifesto. In February of this year, the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a major setback when it lost the election to the BJP. This paved the way for the saffron party to return to power in Delhi after 26 years. Following the defeat in Delhi, the AAP now governs only in Punjab, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
