The brother of Sharif Usman Hadi, the slain Bangladeshi hardline anti-India leader, has made a major revelation regarding his murder. Sharif Omar Hadi alleged that a faction within the Yunus government orchestrated Usman Hadi’s assassination to derail the upcoming national elections. Addressing the government, Omar Hadi said, “You are the ones who had Usman Hadi killed, and now you are trying to use this as an issue to sabotage the elections.” He made these remarks this afternoon at a “Martyrdom Pledge” program organized by the Inqilab Manch in front of the National Museum in Shahbag, Dhaka.

Request made to Bangladeshi authorities

Omar stated that his brother wanted the national elections to be held by February. Respecting his brother’s wish, he urged the authorities not to spoil the election atmosphere. He warned, “Prosecute the killers as soon as possible so that the election environment is not disrupted. The government has failed to show us any concrete progress. If Usman Hadi does not get justice, one day you too will have to flee from Bangladesh.”

Reason for Hadi’s murder explained

He further claimed that Hadi was murdered because he did not bow down to any agency or “foreign masters.” Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Manch, spoke as the main speaker at the rally. He reiterated the 30-day ultimatum given to the government to identify and arrest the killers – a deadline first announced in a press statement on Monday.

Statement regarding the July Revolution

Jaber alleged that this murder is part of a deep conspiracy to undermine the achievements of the July Revolution and the sovereignty of Bangladesh. He claimed that international intelligence agencies and “fascist collaborators” hidden within the country are involved in this murder. He demanded that the government bring the killers before the public through an international-level investigation within the stipulated time, and warned of strong protests if this is not done. They swore an oath in the name of Usman Hadi.

At the end of the rally, the crowd took a “martyrdom oath.” The oath stated: “By the blood of martyr Usman Hadi, we swear that we will not let his blood go in vain. We will remain on the streets and continue our struggle until swift and exemplary justice is ensured for the murder of Usman Hadi.” The organizers announced that the Inqilab Forum would not hold any events on December 25, the day BNP acting chairman Tariq Rahman is scheduled to return to the country.
