Himachal Pradesh: Leopard attacks 10 people in Balh, one young man killed; elderly man shows bravery

A ferocious leopard attacked several people in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. The leopard killed one person and severely injured five others. A total of 10 people were injured. The leopard attacked three villages in Bhadyal Panchayat of Balh sub-division, injuring 10 people, one of whom died.
The injured have been identified as Sahib Singh, son of Jogimaldar, a resident of Bihar; Champa Devi, wife of Manoj Kumar, a resident of Malwana; Dinanath, son of Vikram, a resident of Bhadyal; Jatin, son of Dinanath, a resident of Bhadyal; and Rekha Devi, wife of Dinanath.
Meanwhile, Balveer Singh, a 40-year-old resident of Bhyuli Mandi, who was visiting his brother-in-law Pinku Ram’s house in Bhadyal, died in the attack. The villagers also killed the leopard.
Elderly man shows courage
It is reported that the leopard first attacked Sahib Singh, a migrant worker, in the morning. It then fled and attacked Champa Devi, who was going to collect firewood, but 68-year-old Dagu Ram, who was passing by, bravely chased the leopard away by hitting it with a stick.
Wife and son also injured while trying to save the man
After this, the leopard attacked Dinanath, and when his wife and son Jatin came to his rescue, the leopard attacked and injured them as well.
Leopard killed
Panic spread among the people after the attack, and they came out with sticks and weapons to defend themselves against the leopard. The leopard, which was hiding near a house in the village, tried to attack other people as well. When it ran away after the villagers raised an alarm, it fell on an iron rod and died.

The injured have been taken to Nerchowk Medical College. SDM Smritika Negi said that five people were injured in the leopard attack, while a man from Bhyuli, Mandi, died.
What do forest officials say?
Meanwhile, Deputy Conservator of Forests Vasu Dogar said that a team from the Forest Department was immediately dispatched to the spot after receiving the information. Action is being taken by the department.
