Uttarakhand: Energy corporation conducts raid in Laksar, detects electricity theft in 75 homes, imposes a fine of ₹22 lakh

With the winter season underway, people are using heaters, geysers, and various other water heating devices. In many places, people are also resorting to electricity theft for this purpose. Seeing the sudden increase in electricity load, the power corporation is conducting raids. A large number of electricity theft cases were uncovered during a raid by the power corporation in Laksar.

Anti-Electricity Theft Campaign in Laksar: In Laksar, Haridwar district, trying to obtain warmth through illegal means during the harsh winter has proven costly for many. In some places, electricity was being stolen by illegally tapping into power lines, while in others, cables were being cut from the roof and rods were being inserted into water tanks to heat water. Heaters and other electrical appliances were also being operated illegally.

Electricity Theft Caught in 75 Homes: Following complaints, the power corporation launched its biggest ever anti-electricity theft operation in the Laksar area at 5 AM on Tuesday. A vigilance team from Dehradun conducted simultaneous raids in five villages of the Laksar area. During this operation, electricity theft was detected in approximately 75 homes.

17 Consumers’ Electricity Connections Disconnected: During the operation, the electricity connections of 17 consumers were disconnected on the spot. The cables of all 75 defaulters were cut. This strict action by the power corporation has created a stir among those using electricity illegally in the area.

Rs. 22 Lakh Fine Imposed on Defaulter Consumers: Devendra Kumar, Executive Engineer of the Power Corporation, Laksar, said that:

Strict action was taken against consumers who had outstanding dues of more than Rs. 5,000 during the raids conducted by the vigilance team. A total fine of approximately Rs. 22 lakh has been imposed. He clarified that such campaigns against electricity thieves will continue in the future. Strict legal action will be taken against the culprits.
