Uttarakhand: The Chief Minister inaugurated the Winter Festival held in Sankri and flagged off the tourist group heading to Kedarkantha

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the Kedarkantha Tourism and Pilgrimage Winter Festival held in Sankri, Uttarkashi, on Wednesday. He called for making winter tourism a mass movement and contributing to making Uttarakhand prosperous and self-reliant, stating that winter tourism is a strong foundation for a self-reliant Uttarakhand.
Tourist group flagged off for Kedarkantha
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who arrived at the Winter Festival held in the rapidly emerging tourist center of Sankri, was given a grand welcome with traditional woolen attire. The CM flagged off the tourist group heading to Kedarkantha, thus inaugurating the ceremony. On this occasion, he interacted with the local residents and tourists. He also visited the stalls set up by various departments at the Winter Festival.
Sankri is a living museum of Uttarakhand’s folk culture
The CM said that Sankri is not just a village, but a living museum of Uttarakhand’s folk culture. On his first visit to Sankri, he expressed his gratitude for the affection and enthusiasm of the local people, saying that the traditional architecture, folk culture, and simple mountain lifestyle here reflect the unique identity of Uttarakhand. He said that this festival is a celebration of Uttarakhand’s faith, culture, tradition, and self-respect, and also embodies the vision of “development with preservation of heritage.”
New employment opportunities being created
The CM said that after PM Modi’s call for winter travel, unprecedented enthusiasm is being seen for winter tourism in areas like Kedarkantha, Harsil, Auli, Munsiyari, and Sankri. This is creating new employment opportunities at the local level. Young people are becoming self-reliant through trekking guides, homestays, hotels, and other tourism-related activities, and migration from these areas has decreased.
