In Uttarakhand, the political landscape is being shaped by artificial intelligence ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. This is impacting the image of politicians as well as their political strategies. In response, the cyber police have become more active.

The Uttarakhand assembly elections are scheduled for 2027. All political parties are already working to build their political momentum through campaigning and trying to win the public’s trust. However, ahead of the 2027 elections, there are allegations that AI is being used to tarnish the image of political leaders. The latest case involves former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who has filed a police complaint regarding the use of artificial intelligence to damage his reputation. Harish Rawat registered a case in Nehru Colony, Dehradun, a few days ago. This has led to concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence in the 2027 elections. Following this incident, the cyber police have also stepped up their efforts.

With the help of artificial intelligence, videos are being created not only to enhance popularity but also to target opposition leaders. Cyber Police ASP Kush Mishra stated that it is difficult to prevent videos created with artificial intelligence. However, strict action will be taken against individuals under various sections of the law after the videos are published. He said that action will be taken under Sections 353 and 336 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). Efforts are also being made to prevent and remove such videos through the cooperation portal.

ASP Kush Mishra also informed that under the direction of IG Cyber Nilesh Anand Bharne, AI tools have been purchased and leased. With the help of these tools, it is possible to access the URL of any individual and take action against them. Artificial intelligence is neither inherently good nor bad, but the real question is the purpose for which it is being used. In Uttarakhand politics, AI is now becoming a political weapon. Fake videos, deepfake audio, and edited images are not only damaging the image of leaders but also confusing the general public. Experts say that in the coming times, AI-based disinformation could become the biggest challenge for democracy.
