A New Year’s gift from the Dhami government: 9 IPS officers promoted in Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand government has given a New Year’s gift to several Indian Police Service officers. A Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary approved the promotion of nine IPS officers. These officers had been awaiting the DPC for a long time, and it has now been finalized.
An important administrative update has emerged within the Uttarakhand Police Department. The state government has convened a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) to promote several senior IPS officers, marking the beginning of the New Year for many Indian Police Service officers in the state.
Notably, the release of promotion orders following the DPC will mark a significant change in the police department’s top structure. Abhinav Kumar has been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DG). Kumar is considered one of the state’s senior and most experienced IPS officers and has previously held several important positions.
Nivedita Kukreti, P. Renuka, and Barinder Jeet Singh have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IG). P. Renuka and Barinder Jeet Singh are currently on central deputation. Therefore, these two officers have been given pro forma promotions. Pro forma promotions mean that they will receive the benefits of the higher rank while remaining on their current posting, while the actual charge will be assumed in the state after their central deputation ends. Nivedita Kukreti’s promotion is also considered significant for the department.
Several officers have also been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). This list includes Prahlad Meena, Preeti Priyadarshini, and Yashwant Chauhan. Preeti Priyadarshini has also been given a pro forma promotion because she is currently on central deputation.
In addition, two IPS officers have been promoted to the rank of SSP. IPS officers Tripti Bhatt and Ramchandra Rajguru have now been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police. With this, both officers have become authorized to wear two stars alongside the Ashoka Pillar, which is considered a significant achievement in their cadre.
Overall, these promotions are expected to strengthen the administrative structure of the Uttarakhand Police. Furthermore, the long-awaited promotions are expected to infuse new enthusiasm and energy among the officers in the department. All these officers were scheduled to receive their promotions in January 2026. Thus, the government has given them a New Year’s gift by conducting the DPC on time.
The Chief Secretary of the Uttarakhand government and Meenakshi Sundaram will now receive the pay scale of the Principal Secretary rank. Although they had already been promoted, they will now begin receiving the benefits in the form of pay scale. In fact, after completing 25 years of service, they will receive the benefits at the Principal Secretary level.
The DPCs of two batches of IAS officers in the Uttarakhand government have been held. This has paved the way for the promotion of 10 IAS officers of the 2017 batch. After the DPC, orders regarding the promotion of all these officers will be issued soon. These officers have been promoted to the grade pay of 7600 (JAG – Junior Administrative Grade). These officers include Namami Bansal, Gaurav Kumar, Sandeep Tiwari, Ravneet Cheema, Vinod Giri Goswami, Prashant Kumar Arya, Ashish Kumar Bhatgai, Prakash Chandra, Deepti Singh, and Nidhi Yadav from the 2017 batch.
In addition, three more officers have been promoted. These officers from the 2022 batch have been given the 6600, or senior time scale. Deepak Ramchandra, Rahul Anand, and Ashima Goyal from the 2022 batch have received the promotion. Furthermore, the government is considering the promotion of PCS officer Ramji Sharan.
