Uttarakhand: On the 102nd foundation day of Garhwal Bhawan, the Jaunsari film “Maire Gaon Ki Baat” was honored with the award for Best Uttarakhandi Film

At a ceremony held in the National Capital Region of Delhi to mark the 67th foundation day of Garhwal Bhawan, a symbol of pride for Uttarakhand migrants, the first Jaunsari language film, “Maire Gaon Ki Baat,” was declared the best Uttarakhandi film of 2023 and 2024. The film’s producer-director was honored with the “Garh Gaurav Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Award – 2025.” This award was given for effectively showcasing the heritage, social structure, and values of Jaunsari culture through cinema.
On this occasion, speakers stated that regional films from Uttarakhand have played a significant role in giving national recognition to the state’s diverse folk languages, cultural traditions, social realities, and regional issues. Furthermore, the expansion of these films has created new employment opportunities for writers, lyricists, musicians, artists, technicians, and those working in cinemas.
“Maire Gaon Ki Baat” is the first film in the Jaunsari language, *which was released in cinemas in Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh on December 5, 2024, and ran to packed houses for approximately a month and a half. The film has received widespread acclaim from all sections of society. Its powerful story, set in the mountainous landscape of Jaunsar, its impressive screenplay, excellent music and songs, and skillful direction make it a significant achievement in Uttarakhandi folk language cinema. The film features a balanced blend of emotion, humor, drama, and the rich traditions of Pahari culture. The sensitive portrayal of women’s respect and the still-relevant joint family system is a special achievement of the film. Produced under the banner of Sumikal Production, the film’s presenter is K.S. Chauhan, the writer-director is Anuj Joshi, the lead actor is Abhinav Singh Chauhan, the lyricist is Shyam Singh Chauhan, and the music composer is Amit V. Kapoor.
It is noteworthy that at the Second Uttarakhandi Film Awards 2025, the film “Maire Gaon Ki Baat” was also honored with a Special Jury Mention award for its powerful subject matter, emotional presentation, and realistic portrayal of rural life. This honor is a testament to the creative hard work of the entire film team and their efforts to powerfully showcase Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage through cinema.
The Garhwal Hitaishini Sabha, Delhi, constituted a distinguished panel of producers, actors, theater artists, and writers, which selected films that have made a significant contribution to Uttarakhandi cinema. The panel unanimously chose “Maire Gaon Ki Baat,” the first film in the Jaunsari language, for this award.
It is noteworthy that previously, on the same platform, the Garhwali language film “Meru Gau” was honored as the best film in 2023. The Garhwal Hitaishini Sabha is proud to bestow this prestigious award upon the first Jaunsari language film. This honor will be remembered not only for Jaunsari cinema but also as a historic achievement in the preservation, promotion, and recognition of the entire folk culture of Uttarakhand.
