Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan reviewed the progress of the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project at the Secretariat on Friday. The Chief Secretary stated that this is a high-priority project for both the Government of India and the Government of Uttarakhand, and instructions have been given to complete it as soon as possible.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that there should be no negligence or laxity at any level. He directed all concerned departments to expedite the work and held a meeting with them to review the progress. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary obtained detailed information from all departments regarding the progress of the project.

The Chief Secretary instructed that all project-related drawings and their review by the Central Water Commission be completed on time. He directed that a timeline with PERT charts for all levels be prepared to ensure timely completion of the project. He also instructed that the availability of skilled manpower, machinery, and construction materials be ensured. He further directed that the hydro-mechanical drawings be made available promptly.

The Chief Secretary instructed that all necessary studies related to the project be made available. He directed UJVNL and the district administration to maintain continuous communication with all stakeholders and affected parties involved in the project.

The Chief Secretary instructed the Principal Secretary of Energy to review the progress of the work fortnightly at his level. He stated that he himself would also regularly monitor the progress closely. He also directed that continuous communication be maintained with the concerned ministries to expedite file processing for various approvals.

It was informed in the meeting that the dam being constructed under the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project on the Yamuna River will be 204 meters high and will have a live storage capacity of 330.40 MCM. It will have a power generation capacity of 300 megawatts.

Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, MD UJVNL Dr. Sandeep Singhal, representatives from the Central Water Commission, and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
