Despite clear orders from the High Court, the Mool Niwas Bhoomi Kanoon Sangharsh Samiti (Indigenous Residents’ Land Rights Struggle Committee) has submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate of Dehradun regarding the serious issue of illegal entry fees being charged and tourists being stopped on the public road leading to George Everest, Mussoorie.
Allegations of illegal toll collection on the George Everest road
Lushun Todaria, the convener of the Mool Niwas Bhoomi Kanoon Sangharsh Samiti, stated that despite the High Court clearly declaring the collection of any kind of entry fee on a public road illegal, the orders are being openly flouted at the local level. The committee has demanded legal action against the guilty individuals and organizations.

The committee alleges mistreatment of tourists
Todaria said that there have been continuous complaints of mistreatment, forced detention, and harassment of tourists, which not only violates the law but also damages the state’s tourism image. Lushun said that the illegally collected entry fees should be stopped immediately, otherwise the company will be surrounded by local people at George Everest.
