For Reena Devi, a resident of the Kankhal area of Haridwar, a home was until now just a dream of four walls. For years, she lived with her children in a small rented room. The ever-increasing rent and the worries caused by the leaking roof during every rainy season had become a part of her life.
Thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) (Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme), the dreams of thousands of women like Reena are about to become a reality. Under a total of 15 projects in the state, more than 12,000 eligible beneficiaries will soon be provided with homes, fulfilling their dream of owning a house.
According to Housing Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, the construction of 12,856 residential units under a total of 15 projects in the state is nearing completion. Work from excavation to foundation, plinth, and RCC frame has been completed.
Roof casting is also almost complete. The projects are now in their final stages, and preparations are underway to hand over the houses to the beneficiaries soon. The plains of Uttarakhand, especially Roorkee, Haridwar, Kashipur, and Dehradun, are the main centers of these projects. A large number of houses in these projects are almost ready.
More than 9,200 houses have already been fully finished. Finishing work is also being completed rapidly in the remaining houses. Additional Commissioner Housing D.P. Singh said that the final touches are being given to the buildings under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The process of handing over the buildings to the beneficiaries will be completed within a month.
