Uttarakhand Congress President Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya today visited Paiga village in Udham Singh Nagar district to meet the family of the deceased farmer Sukhwant Singh, expressing their condolences and offering comfort, and gathering information about the entire incident. Giving the above information, the outgoing in-charge of the State Congress Media Department, Rajiv Maharshi, said that a delegation of senior Congress leaders, led by State President Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya, met the family of the deceased farmer. On this occasion, the Congress leaders also demanded a judicial inquiry from the government into the farmer’s suicide in Kashipur.

State Congress President Ganesh Godiyal said that the reasons behind the farmer’s suicide are deeply disturbing. The law and order situation in the state is deteriorating, and the farmer’s suicide in Kashipur is a living example of this. He said that this is not just a case of a farmer’s suicide, but a stain on the Dhami government and the state police. The involvement of police officers in such acts forces the public to wonder if police personnel are buying someone’s life for their own family’s comfort and well-being, which is a matter of serious concern for the people of the state. Instead of taking cognizance of and acting on the farmer’s complaint of fraud, the police allegedly took money from the accused and started harassing and threatening the complainant farmer, forcing him to commit suicide.

State Congress President Ganesh Godiyal said that a high-level judicial inquiry should be conducted into the suicide case of farmer Sukhwant Singh of Kashipur, and strict action should be taken against the culprits. He also demanded that adequate compensation be given to the family of the deceased farmer and that the accused police officers and personnel be immediately dismissed so that they cannot influence the investigation.

Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya said that merely suspending the police personnel in this case is not enough. He alleged that a farmer was forced to commit suicide due to the harassment by the police administration and the arrogance of power. This incident has devastated an entire family. This is not just the death of a farmer, but a result of the government’s inhumane policies. He demanded that the government conduct a judicial inquiry into the entire matter. Furthermore, the guilty police officers should be prosecuted for abetting suicide. The government should immediately announce a compensation of ₹50 lakh for the deceased farmer’s family and a job for one family member. The officers involved in the harassment of the deceased farmer should be immediately dismissed. The Leader of the Opposition alleged that farmers are not safe under the BJP government. There is no guarantee that the victims will get justice. The Congress party will fight from the streets to the legislature to ensure justice for the victim’s family.

On this occasion, Congress National Secretary Manoj Yadav, MLA Tilakraj Behar, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Bhuvan Kapadi, Jaspur MLA Adesh Chauhan, District President Himanshu Gaba, AICC members Anupam Sharma, Indu Mann, Sandeep Sehgal, Manoj Joshi, and other Congress leaders were present.
